The Hobbit

Bilbo Baggins is a fictional hobbit character, first appearing in J.R.R. Tolkien's novel, *The Hobbit*. He resides in his comfortable hobbit-hole, Bag End, in the Shire.

Initially content with a quiet, uneventful life, Bilbo is unexpectedly thrust into adventure when the wizard Gandalf recruits him for a quest. He joins a company of thirteen dwarves, led by Thorin Oakenshield, on a journey to reclaim their treasure from the dragon Smaug at the Lonely Mountain.

Throughout the perilous journey, Bilbo displays surprising courage and resourcefulness. He discovers a magical ring in Gollum's cave, which grants him invisibility. This ring later proves to be the One Ring, central to the plot of *The Lord of the Rings*. Bilbo's experiences transform him from a homebody hobbit into a seasoned adventurer.
